KIRAN Cymru is a strategic organisation by grassroots people, for grassroots people. we are non-political, non-religious and open-to-all with a particular focus on people from ethnic minority backgrounds. By championing the principles of equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion, it strives to create a level playing field at the heart of society — ensuring no one is left behind. KIRAN Cymru was founded in 2018 by Tamasree Mukhopadhyay and Anirban Mukhopadhyay, with support from Mr Paul Norton, Headmaster of Kings Monkton School in Cardiff, and Mrs Bet Davies, DL.
KIRAN Cymru was born from this very spirit — to serve as a bridge between cultures, a platform where people from all backgrounds can come together in an atmosphere of dignity, mutual respect, and equality.
Its ethos is firmly rooted in the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion. KIRAN Cymru stands as a non-religious, non-political organisation that is open to all — welcoming everyone and honouring each person’s identity, culture, and story.
We are, and will always be, an organisation of the people — grounded, connected, and accountable to the grassroots.
Tamasree Mukhopadhyay, CEO, KIRAN Cymru
“Change doesn’t happen in a single moment. It happens in many — consistently, compassionately, and collectively.”
Because real change isn’t a destination – it’s a journey.
At KIRAN Cymru, we believe that sustainable community change takes consistency, structure, and time. That’s why we organise our work around long-term programmes, co-designed with our community members to reflect shared visions and lasting goals.
Our programmes are ongoing, regular, structured, and based on our aim — created not just to respond to immediate needs, but to build the kind of deep-rooted, long-term impact that our communities deserve.
How We work
To ensure our work remains relevant, our community members regularly carry out gap analyses and co-design time bound projects to respond to current needs and evolving challenges. These projects are not standalone — they are strategically aligned with our broader programme goals.
Together, they allow us to remain both visionary and responsive.
What this means in practice
Consistent Engagement
We’re not here for one moment in time — we walk alongside our communities 365 days a year, every step of the way.
Lasting Impact
Our long-term programmes enable us to go beyond quick fixes, addressing root causes to create sustainable, transformative change.
Co-Designed Solutions
We don’t deliver top-down solutions. Every project or new activity is co-created with community members, based on real-life needs and grounded in lived experience.
Flexibility with Purpose
Our approach is dynamic. Programmes adapt over time, and projects are co-designed as and when needed, keeping our work relevant and rooted in reality
Our programmes are as follows:
KIRAN Cymru was established to co-produce solutions to socio-economic challenges with communities — not for them. We amplify the voices of those with lived experience, welcoming people of all races, religions, genders, and backgrounds.
At the heart of our work is the Volunteers’ Committee — an intergenerational team of 38 dedicated individuals who give between 15 minutes to 40 hours a week to drive KIRAN Cymru forward. Their work is supported by our Executive Committee, which oversees day-to-day operations and helps co-design ethically sound, community-led programmes.
The Board of Trustees, drawn from the Volunteers’ Committee, acts as the constitutional guardian of KIRAN Cymru, ensuring we stay true to our founding values.
Our Community Advisory Forum, open to all and meeting quarterly, provides critical grassroots insight, allowing us to reflect, improve, and build public trust.
We are proudly non-political, non-religious, and open to all, with a particular focus on people from ethnic minority backgrounds. We welcome collaboration with any individual or organisation sharing these values — and invite you to join us in this mission.
